About Me
Hello there, and welcome to my portfolio! My name is Henry Shifrin, and I am a student at Northeastern University. Prior to living in Boston, I was raised in a small town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland; while small town life is a major component in the way in which I engage with media, I have now been based in Boston since 2021. I call myself a documentary photographer, as most work that I do is rooted in photojournalism with an emphasis on shooting large gatherings of people. I find that groups and gatherings hold a lot of power; in ideology, influence, and common goals. My work strives to capture the feeling of that environment. That is a special reason of why I enjoy concert photography, a more recent development of my work. Concerts are a spiritual experience. Being in that crowd you feel a common mood, interest, and admiration; everyone is there for the same experience and sits on a level playing field. My goal when entering a concert is to capture a sliver of that vibe and capture the moments in a still frame. In addition on this portfolio you can find a selection of written works that I have produced; some concert reviews, album reviews, and a variety of assignments created in my journalism courses.
